The Indiana Safe Routes to School Partnership again invites your school community to join us in ‘10 Days of Fun on Your Feet’! This Walk and Bike to School Challenge, which will begin on May 6 and end on May 17, encompasses National Bike to School Day on May 8.
This Challenge will build upon the successes that so many schools and districts have achieved while completing Safe Routes to School projects and participating in past Walk to School Day activities. This friendly competition is intended to encourage schools and districts to promote local walking and bicycling events, support healthy and active students and adults, and showcase Indiana’s participation in nationwide efforts that make it safer and easier for children to walk and bike to school.
We hope that you and your students will participate! Because we want to make this as easy and efficient as possible for you, we have provided numerous resources (detailed below) to help with your planning and activities. Our partners, who are located throughout Indiana, will be happy to provide support and assistance, too. Don’t hesitate to ask us!
Here are the steps for getting started and organized:
1. Identify a leader and recruit partners
2. Register your event with us & let us know how we can help you
3. Plan your challenge activities and incentives
4. Promote participation to students, parents and partners
5. Count walkers and bikers and return your numbers to us
6. Celebrate your success
We’re excited to see more students walking and biking to school in Indiana communities, and we hope this Challenge will highlight and encourage that. Mark your calendars now, start planning and join us this spring for ‘10 Days of Fun on Your Feet’!
